Childhood sleep panic disorder?

Posted by admin - Under: Panic Disorder Children

When I was a child about 10 years old, I use to have some kind of panic disorder after I woke up and that was the last time I remember experiencing it. If I was to describe the feeling, it felt kind of anti-claustrophobic (rather than walls closing in and wanting to escape small spaces, I felt like I wanted to stay within an enclosed area which was my bedroom with fear of what was outside). I was also very scared of opening my bedroom door and going outside because I thought that a ‘giant rock’ would roll down and crush me. I’ve never told anyone about this but last night, a family friend of mine who’s 10 and a half, experienced a similar situation. He said he was scared to go back to sleep and he said everything seemed to become very distant from him (i.e the walls around him and me seemed as if we were 10 meters away, when in reality the walls were only 2 meters away from him). He also felt that the walls were crushing him and some kind of ‘balls’ were falling down from everywhere and out of nowhere hitting him.

This happened in the middle of the night maybe around 2-4am. This morning when he woke up again, he was calm.

If anyone can tell me what this is or how it can be helped, please let me know.

Just trying to help a kid out here who had a similar problem that I did. Thanks.

You should try CPAP or BIPAP. They are tested to help a person sleep easier. Check out the link in my source, they offer free trials. If you don’t like it, you can quit, but they really helped me. I used to wake up in the middle of the night on the floor all sweaty because I had sleep disorder, but now I can go to sleep really easily in the night. Just take a trial at the website below.

I have no idea, but I’d like to know because my brother and I used to get a similar thing in the middle of the night. For both of us it was like everything was huge and tiny at the same time, so I suppose it could have also seemed really close but far away. There were never thoughts of things falling on us or fear of anything, but that bizarre size/distance thing sounds the same.Neither of us have had it since we were young, maybe it’s just due to chemical changes in children’s brains?
