Can Panic Attacks cause preterm labor?

Posted by admin - Under: Cause of Panic Attacks

Hi. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing panic attacks. Can these cause preterm labor?

NOT usually in >>causing preterm labour.
Causing a miscarriage=yes.
Why, because of stress..
Anxiety/Panic attacks are signs that the body is experiencing stress..Stress caused currently OR by some underlying cause that may be a past thing.
Are U sure about the panic attacks..Usually it is VERY difficult for a person to self-diagnose Anxiety.
U need a doctors diagnosis for this problem.

During a pregnancy, it is common for many women to experience a little anxiety, often brought about by >>those strange feelings..U are currently experiencing.
And perhaps (here I AM guessing) someone told U something that worried U. ?

Try NOT to worry and dont get TOO excited (or upset) on the answers u may receive to your question. Some answers (even mine) may cause more thinking problems and U dont need any more.

the attacks won’t cause preterm labor but, panic attacks are usually caused by stress. If you are having them frequently your stress level could cause preterm labor.

i’m not sure, i had panic attacks too, and was very stressed due to work, it wasn’t good for my blood pressure, i got severe pre-eclampsia and was induced at exactly 35 weeks, but it runs in my family so i don’t know if the two were connected

I’m with one of the other answers. The panic attacks themselves will not cause preterm labor, but the cause of the attacks, probably stress, can cause preterm labor. I had panic attacks with my first and ended up delivering at 36 weeks after many episodes of preterm labor. Your best bet is to talk to you dr/midwife and see if you can get to the bottom of the panic attacks and eliminate the problem. I think mine had something more do with an irregular heartbeat that I felt and ended up making it difficult to breathe, causing a panic attack.

Pure stress can be managed. Go to a health food store and get some chamomile tea and have a glass at night to help you relax. You could also pick up some Lavender chamomile oil and rub behind your ears or dilute it with wat in a tiny spray bottle and carry it around with you and mist yourself throughout the day to help you calm down. I hope this helps.

Panic attacks and anxiety can cause pre-term labor, but only due to the stress it puts on your body. Talk to your caregiver and try to put some coping and relaxation methods in place.
