We have a young girl at work that doesn’t want to be on medication (I can’t blame her), and she has several panic attacks each month. What is the quickest way to calm her, is there a tea or a vitamin or music?

Here’s some on line advice sites.

What is a safe and comfortable vehicle to drive for someone that suffers from depression and panic attack?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

I need a car but suffer frequent panic attacks while driving. I don’t want to drive anymore but I have to take my daughter to school. I need something used under $6,000 any advice?

I was hit and almost killed by a drunk driver and if it wasn’t for my Saturn I would be dead. The cross bar saved my life as I was hit at 40mph on the drivers side door by and SUV. I now own a new Saturn Ion, with same saftey features and cross bar. It’s a super safe car and God forbid, can save your life. The Ion’s also come equipt with OnStar incase you need any help. Good luck

What is the worst that can happen to you when having a panic attack?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

I am 17 yrs old, i have had panic disorder since i was 14 or 15. I am on medication, but I’m still always worried that my tounge is swollen and that im going to either swallow it or choke on it. My breathing has got a little better and I don’t get rapid heartbeat as much, but there’s still something there …. HELP please. I need answers.

I’d say the worst thing that could happen is you not discussing your concerns with your doctor. All the advice in the world you get from here can’t replace having a good doctor check you out.

If your dreaming about having a panic attack what does this mean?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

I was wondering that if in your dream you had a panic attack.. Does this mean that your body is actually having one? Because I dreamt that I was having a panic attack where i was breathing in and out very fast. Because I thought i was going to be late for a exam. But I’m not sure if i was really having an attack or it was just in my head :S and could this be anxiety, whats the difference between the two ?
Thankyou in advance :)

It doesn’t automatically mean you’re ahving a panic attack (just like draeming that you’re eating a bagal doesn’t mean you will feel full, or dreaming that you are drowning doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll start gasping for air). The difference is between thought and action/physiological response, or basically, how much you let it all get out of control instead of being able to calm yourself down. You can think about having a panic attack right now without going into one (in fact, if you practice imagining panic attacks and working through them a lot, it might decrease your tendency to have one, yay for gradual exposure). Panic attacks are by their definition "in your head" (your thoughts react to body sensations, creating a cascading effect where everything gets worse).

Can someone describe what a panic attack feels like?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

I’ve really stressed lately. Now I find myself really upset, it gets harder and harder for me to breathe and there is a dull pain starting in my chest and seems to get worse when something new (in a bad way) comes up. It’s like it never ends and my head is burning up from the anger. Am I on the way to having a panic attack? I’ve tried breathing in deeply, taking a break from work, smoking a cigarette, etc.

From experience, I can tell you panic attacks come in a palethera of variations. There’s the one you describe: The I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack and just die right here kind. (Those are fun, so fun , the E.R. sees them daily.) Then there are the, I feel paranoid, can’t stand in a checkout line ones that send many fleeing the store leaving grocery basket in middle of aisle 7. Then there are the What I’d really like to do is just find a comfy spot in hall closet for awhile till my pulse slows down a tad. It can all be draining..and pi** you off, to put it mildly…You have to take along deep breathe, hold it, then release air SSLLOOWWLLYY..and do this for about a minute..don’t hyperventilate, or you’ll feel like your suffocating..DONE IT!! I take antidepressents and it helps the anxiety. Don’t listen to Tom Cruise and his pompous attitude towards meds. He’s not anxious, he’s just NUTS!..period….

How do i calm myself down during a panic attack?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

Lately, all i have wanted to do is cry. And before during and after that a get panic attacks. what do i do to calm myself down so i can break again?

A good thing to try is to practice proper breathing techniques.

Try deep breaths but not too many, you don’t want to hyperventilate.

quick shallow breaths will only make the problem worse.

Try 3 slow, deep breaths, then stop for a moment then try again. Also, try having some soothing music nearby, perhaps with an mp3 player

What can I do to help someone who is experiencing a panic attack?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

My boyfriend has recently been experiencing panic attacks. They are very unpleasent when he has one. I was curious if there is any way I can help him calm down while he is experiencing one or if I should leave him alone. Im not sure what actions I should take, I just want to do what is best for him.

try to calm him down ,take a bag and let him breathe in it to avoid hyperventialtion and respiratory alkalosis which could precipitate hypocalcaemia and spasms, regarding medications anxiolytic drugs ,b-blockers and best is reassurance and trying to make him avoid the situations which induce attacks
