Chemical dependance! teen Help!!?
Hi everyone.. I am 16 years old.. and feel that i may potentially have some degree of chemical dependancey. Cutting an extremley long story short, i started using drugs when i was 14. I got stoned before i had even got drunk before. i found smoking dope as "Fun". No real trouble, and it was the same with getting drunk aswell. i only ocassionally did it when i was 14, trying to fit in etc. (very very low self esteme,PTS,) i started doing this in the summer time, and when i returned to school, i found myself, drinking to get drunk every weekend. i was getting stoned alot more, for fun, tried new things, such as weed dipped in LSD. then.. started getting more intrested into drugs, etc, just generally. i had a new crowd, stereotypical-Teen drug using, gone bad, i know. but anyway.. Over the course of that year at school, whilst i had changed, found a new crowd, and felt alot more confident etc.. I started to feel myself feeling very low. i was getting extremley frustrated and angry. i know the reasons why i was.. many of them were (severe bullying & deep emotional based) problems. but they were cluttering my life. unfortunatley, this resulted in more drug use.. moving on too Ritalin Abuse, speed,Ecstasy. very quicky i dramatically slipped into a very very dark hole. I had deep slashes cut down my arms, wrists, face, lips, all that i had done myself with sizzors & razor blades.. felt an extreme relief, but painful days after. I was smoking..Overdosing.. everything was dark. I started developing Panic Attacks.. from extreme stress.. and got to a stage where i couldnt go out my door in the mornings. when i first started noticing the effect stress was having on me.. i looked into Herbal over the counter remedies i.e. Calms,Valerian etc. These helped take a slight edge of my stress.. and was quite comforting to feel a relief.
Shortly i found myself upping the recomened doses of these, ( the recomended dose is like 2 when stressed.. and i was gulping about 13 in my mouth before school) Finding that it achived somewhat of an overley calm effect.. although wasnt enough to take it comletley away. It was a daily habbit, fireing my pills into me.. Not to mention more throughout the day, including ritalin, alot of painkillers, and tobacco/marijuana-if i could get it. Everyone was noticing it.. i lost some friends.. and got nothing but.. "Youre a Fucking DRUG ADDICT!"
Eventually.. i got so anxious.. i couldnt leave the house. My parents had to bring me to the doctors.. when they figured out everything that was going on for me. The doctor heard everyhting.. and perscribed me an antispasmodic & 2 weeks course of sleeping tablets. This was just the beggining.
I was diagnosed with Anxiety & Depression just before i turned 15. My anxiety was still severe.. and i was perscribed everything from Anti Pyscotics to diazepam,Buspirone,Prozac,Cipralex,Ritalin & many more than i care to remember.
Obviously with ones like Diazepam (2mg & 5mg) I found myself unable to take the doeses as perscribed. I was taking more than i was supposed to.. in order to create an overley sedated effect. Many of these medications i would still take with other herbal alternatives! combigning anything, everybox said.. "Do not take with alcohol".. Did i care about that?? No. Drank away on them all.
Many of the meds helped.. and i had to be taken out of school for a while. The depression etc, still hasnt shifted. My drug use behaviour started turning worse. Going to relatives houses meant.. Raid their medicine cuboards. I was taking Codine from my uncles house, Temazepam, Prozac, Strong Pain killers, even things like St Johns wart i was bagging.
I would go home.. and would take a 60mg Codine tablet and crush it up, put it in hot water in a shot glass and neck it.. wanting a quick rush.
Now 16 .. I am still on perscription medications.. with a range of pysciatrists, therapists,Gps.
I am still in an awful state.. (depression wize, self esteme, suicidal behaviour). I am really trying to turn my life around.. every other aspect in my life.. is.. pretty much.. screwed up.. but.. specifically about this drug problem.. I feel i may potentially be chemically dependant.
The chemist has noticed my 60 ritalin(30MG) s being used in One week. And now has set up a 7 each week.. (one each day) .. and have been put on a timed release version. Even at this.. I would find myself.. chrushing the beads.. Snorting it. I do not really take iliegel drugs that much now.. Because of a reacent.. "DODGEY Ecstasy Tablet" (well 5 in one go) Incident. But i have recently tried the new drug "Mephedrone" but have been able to stay clear as best i can.
In a typical school day now.. i would wake up.. straight away.. open my box of L-Tyrosine (supplement, premotes mental alertness, dopamine etc) and take about 2. i would get ready.. and take 2 5-HTP (seratonin booster supplement) tablets. I would then get something to eat.. and then My Ritalin. (has to be after food, because of a

people with anxiety- how do you stop "the shakes"?
ive been doing better with my panic attacks, but lately ive been getting really shakey and it sucks.
anyone got any home-remedy type stuff that works for them? please dont suggest me going back on my meds, i just weaned off them and i dont need or want them anymore
er, not much more information cause im shaking too hard to really type. advice please?
Mathieu- its definitely just a side effect of an attack, im not shaky all the time luckily. the attack i was under when i asked this was one of the worst, and when i say "home remedy" i mean more of a "calm-downer".
what i took was antidepressants and anti-psychotics, my psych never would give me anything like xanax. i had checked out beta blockers before, but i decided against asking my psych because quite frankly, i dont like her… she wouldnt listen to me when i told her of concerns of borderline personality disorder, and after that ive kind of held a grudge. even if i dont have that, i lost respect for her as a doctor for just shutting me down rudely instead of giving me a chance to explain.
but thanks for the thought out response, and if my attacks keep happening ill probably have to look into beta blockers again, but until then im still going to try to beat the attacks myself. ill give you BA in a few hours when yahoo lets me.
thanks for the answers everyone (:
There are no home remedies for shaking, I can guarantee that. Are you sure it is just anxiety? Typically people might be shaky for a short time (eg during a panic attack) but constant shaking is not very common.
If you have not already, you might consider getting blood work and a full physical done just to make sure you are healthy.
What meds were you on? Some anti-anxiety medications (eg Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin/Rivotril) can causing shaking when they are stopped too rapidly. So if this is a new symptom you really should see your doctor.
Aside from therapy to treat anxiety nothing like a home remedy has shown to be effective in treating mild-severe anxiety. Most home remedies are just a placebo. That is not an opinion, that is was science says.
Just for your considering there is a type medication, not normally used in anxiety, and not really even a psychiatric drug that could help. Beta-blockers (propranolol, atenolol) were the first drugs for high blood pressure but recently these medications have been used for anxiety because they block adrenaline and make people look less anxious by treating the somatic (physical) symptoms of anxiety. Heart palpitations, tremor, flushing, increased blood pressure, sweating, and so on are reduced or eliminated. The feeling of anxiety still exists but it does not show and many people feel less anxious because they know they don’t look as anxious. Many celebrities take a beta-blocker before a performance to help with stage fright and people with test anxiety often benefit from beta-blockers. The drugs are NOT addictive, they don’t have psychotropic effects, they don’t typically have side effects, there is a wide range of doses (10-80 mg tabs), they can be taken as needed or continuously, and they don’t cause dependency.
Propranolol is typically the best choice because it is a non selective beta-blocker, meaning it antagonizes (blocks) beta1 and beta2 adrenergic receptors. Other drugs like atenolol selectively antagonizes beta1 adrenergic receptors.
So these would probably be the most ideal medications and along with a more than 50 years of testing they won’t carry the risks other medications can.
What is a good home remedy for a panic attack?
Massage of the neck and throat is said to help ease panic attacks as these areas are often tense during the attacks. However, it’s important to be careful to massage gently on one side of the neck and throat and not both sides at once. Too aggressive massaging on both sides may cause unconsciousness if the massaging interferes with blood flow.
Dietary changes that include avoiding caffeine in beverages such as soda, tea and coffee are often said to help reduce the likelihood of a panic attack. Some people think that panic attacks may be caused by dietary deficiencies such as a lack of B-complex vitamins, calcium or magnesium. Be sure to discuss this with a doctor or qualified nutritionist before taking extra vitamins or minerals.
Some panic attack sufferers have noted that self-talking techniques can help reduce the severity of the attacks. For example, during an attack, the sufferers tell themselves that, yes, they are having an attack, but it will be all right. The idea that they can experience the attack, yet know they will be all right after it seems to help some panic attack sufferers feel more calm and in control.
good luck and learn to relax:)
Hypocondria, how can I control it?
I never use to worry about my health to obsession while I was in college both undergrad/graduate. Now that I am out and don’t have classes/homework to worry about and have a steady, more predictable job/lifestyle I came to realize my own mortality and now obsess over it sometimes to the point of interrupting my day at work and decreasing productivity.
It started first with me thinking I had menigitis and I had panic attacks about it. Next, it was my wisdom teeth but a routine trip to the dentist calmed that. Now it’s worse than ever and I think I have HIV due to the fact I had a virus infection 5 years ago (acute HIV)! The best (well worst) part is that I never engaged in any risky HIV activity…ever. But I think such stupid thoughts like "what if someone poked me with a needle in my sleep?" or "what if when I was in the woods that one time, that thorn on the ground was really a needle that jabbed me?" and blah blah blah, like I said, it’s getting worse…
I have trouble controlling it, mainly at work when I have a less then exciting assignment to do.
Any suggestions? I don’t think I am at the level for professional help yet, not before I try some home remedies. I use to be such a care free guy…now I feel like such a whimp.
Thanks guys, I apprecite it!

Are there any alternatives(natural remedies) for infections?
I was in the hospital last month with Pneumonia. I was admitted and had to stay there for a week. The doctors had me on high doses of Levaquin and Predisone and I was on oxygen. I also have asthma so they were giving me Ventilin treatments as well. The same day I got discharged I ended up going back that same night and getting admitted again because of shortness of breath. They couldn’t understand why. They said maybe stress at home. I have 3 children. But they didn’t give me anything to calm my nerves. I think I was having anxiety/panic attacks. Since I’ve been home I’m still taking Predisone I’m down to two 5mg pills a day along with Symbicort (inhaled powder for asthma) twice daily. I recently went back to the hospital again for shortness of breath and the doctor in the ER prescribed Avelox. After reading the printed out information sheet I’m not sure if I should take it. It states in capital letters ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION if you’re taking Prednisone. Safe?
Your symptoms correspond to those of the Homeopathic Remedy ARGENTUM NIT in 30X potency three times a day half hour before meals. No side effects or complications, 100% relief very fast and totally safe to take. Feel free to email me if you need to ask or clarify anything.
Take Care and God Bless you !
Can someone please tell me if my blood pressure is normal?
Hello everyone,
I am a 40 year old male and I weigh 198 pounds and am 6′1”.
When I wake in the morning an average reading for my blood pressure is 110/50 and my pulse is around 50-55.
Sometimes it’s lower, sometimes it’s higher by as much as 5 points systolic, diastolic and heart rate during these waking hours.
During the day when I sit down and take it it is roughly 120/71 and pulse is 73, again give or take up to 5 points in both directions respectively.
My concern is my blood pressure and heart rate when I exercise on the treadmill..
We have a "Landice L8 Treadmill" and we also have an "Omron HEM-712C" blood pressure monitor.
We have had the monitor calibrated by our cardiologist and it gives perfect values for pressure and heart rate.
We then calibrated the Landice Treadmill with the monitor. The treadmill has stainless steel hand grips that measure heart rate and the treadmill gives identical correct values for heart rate.
My heart rate is usually about 85 when I get on the treadmill and I set the treadmill speed to 2.5
After about the first minute my heart rate goes up to 95 or so and then fluctuates between 82 and 105 during the 1 hour that I stay on at that speed.
If I turn the speed up to 2.8 my heart rate fluctuates between 95 and 115.
If I get off the treadmill and take my blood pressure immediately I get a reading in the 120’s Systolic and 70’s diastolic and my heart rate is in the 80’s.
The second immediate consecutive reading is around 113/60 and pulse is like 68.
What worries me is when I turned up the speed to 3.0 or 3.2 my heart rate goes up to like 168 after only a minute.
I got off and took my blood pressure immediately and it was 162/82 and my pulse was 76.
Is my heart rate supposed to be 168 after only a minute at the speed of 3.0 to 3.2?
And second my blood pressure stayed up at around 159/80 and my pulse stayed at about 77 for like 10 to 15 minutes after I got off the treadmill. Is this normal?
It seems like it stayed up too long.
I also did a treadmill stress test at the cardiologist about two months ago and while on the treadmill at almost a running speed, but still just a brisk, brisk walk my blood pressure went all the way up to 200/100 and my pulse was 178.
I asked my cardiologist if that was high and he said yes. Is this dangerous?
I don’t have any chest pain or shortness of breath. Is it exercise hypertension?
Is exercise hypertension reversible?
If this is exercise hypertension and the elasticity in my arteries isn’t there anymore can it be restored somehow?
I do not like taking medication, rather I would like to do things naturally.
Are there any tests I should specifically take to figure out why my blood pressure goes so high during exercise?
Basically I just want to know:
(A). Is the blood pressure and heart rate I experience while exercising on my treadmill at home normal for the speed I am operating at?
and
(B). If I do continually experience high blood pressure while exercising but not while at rest, what tests should I take?
I feel like a ton of adrenaline is being dumped into my bloodstream when these pressures occur. I have been tested for a pheochromocytoma by blood and MRI and both came back negative neck and entire body areas.
I am also pretty mellow and can’t imagine it being anything like a panic attack.
I try not to worry but it seems pretty high to me!
I hope there is someone out there who can shed some light on what may be causing my hearts symptoms and give me direction for what may remedy them.
Thank you so much in advance,
Bryan
Please note I wasn’t running at the doctors office, I was walking very briskly. Also please note at home I was only at the speeds of 3.0 and 3.2 for exactly 50 seconds.
Everyone’s heart rate and blood pressure go up during exercise. If it didn’t then that means your not working hard enough. What would be worrisome is if you got those same numbers when you were not exercising. Your BP and pulse drop during periods of rest(sleeping) and thru out the day go up in response to stress, exercise and eating a lot of salty food. There is a point when exercising that you can go over your max heart rate, but it not harmful just exhausting. Your body can not efficiently pump enough blood(oxygen) to supply your muscles and you start getting cramps. The numbers you listed should not worry you unless you start getting chest pain, or if they do not return to normal after resting. Normal BP is around 120/80, but everyone fluctuates constantly during the day, and everyone operates at their own normal ranges.
Okay, so lately i’ve been very anxious everyday, more of a general anxious feeling, I feel like i fear something bad is going to happening if i go out somewhere, i dont feel safe unless im at home.. i’ve also noticed my breathing pattern has changed and it almost feels like im on the verge of a panic attack everyday. I’ve had bad times with anxiety before but none like this.In any stressful situation i get a full blown panic attack, which are traumatizing and it makes me fear leaving my house. Things like even going to pay my bills is becoming very difficult. I try to make a habit of not letting myself be housebound, but its becoming a routine for me nowdays because im so anxious nonstop. sometimes it feels like im anxious for no good reason at all. I have no clue. I dont have the money to afford therapy, so thats not an option for me right now. I was gonna try something like L-Theanine, a herbal remedy, but im kind of skeptical if it works or not. This is becoming very annoying as i actually do wanna go out, but the fear of having another panic attack forces me not to. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas i could try to be less anxious everyday? I want medication to be my last resort, but if any of you have had positive results with medications i would very much like to know, thanks
I used to be like this with depression, even walking out the door was scary but seeing the impact on my children I had no choice but to change things, I started taking them out EVERYDAY even if it was a walk to the shop with a park stop, but more importantly were the groups i started attending mother and tots and groups my eldest was interested in dance and things alike at first it was killing me almost but now im used to it and enjoy being out but still enjoy being home more! if i leave going out for a couple of days i find it hard to go out even now so make an extra special effort to get out each and every day. If you dont havechildren to give you that excuse to go out, perhaps try joining a coffee meeting, or volunteering for a charity shop or something alike! The only way to fix it is to face it head on
Do you think this could be asthma?
I have only had an asthma attack once or twice and it was a few years back. I think both times it was exercise induced though. However, I am increasingly noticing problems with my breathing. I don’t know if it is asthma, hay fever, allergies, or something more serious. These are my symptoms though: I have a persistent tightness in my chest and it is hard for me to take full breaths and deep breaths. I believe this is constantly occurring, however, I notice it more at night. It’s hard for me to breathe through my nose even though it isn’t stuffy. I have to breathe through my mouth a lot of the times. My throat tightens up when it’s humid, and when I’m around steam, smoke, and perfume. I have nasal dripping, a cough that has been on and of for months. I don’t even remember when it started. I always have mucus in the back of my throat as well, and it seems like I can never get rid of it. Also, a few times my breathing has been so bad that I feel dizzy. I feel myself starting to panic, but I remind myself it will only make it worse, so I try to take slow breaths and after a few minutes I feel better, although I feel like I’m not breathing 100% great. Also, are there any home remedies that can help this? I have no health insurance.
You sound very similar to me, and I have asthma. The only thing I don’t think you mentioned that I suffer from is wheezing and this "tickly" feeling in my throat. Like you, strong smells and smoke make me feel like my throat is closing up. Also, it is really hard for me to breathe when it is humid. Also, cold air can physically make my lungs hurt to breathe in. I have mucus, too, on occasion. When I get that, however, it generally means I have bronchitis. You will need antibiotics if you have bronchitis.
I kept getting bronchitis (like every 2 months for a year or 2 straight) and that is how my asthma was discovered. I started taking Flovent daily and Proventil as a rescue inhaler (before exercise and as necessary) a few months ago and didn’t get bronchitis for 6 months! I currently have bronchitis again, so my doc has started me on Singulair daily (along with my previously mentioned meds). I also use a Neti Pot (although I get pretty lazy about it…the more often I use it, the better I feel). It makes a big difference. You should Google "neti pot" and see if it is something that might be for you. Hot tea with lemon and honey (local is best, helps with allergies, too) helps your throat and with the sinus issues.
You should go to the doctor and tell him/her what exactly is going on. It sounds to me like you might have asthma, (especially given your previous history with asthma) but only your doctor can make that diagnosis. Hope this answers your question. Good luck.
Has anyone used Calming formulas for dogs with Seperation Anxiety?
I have two dogs, one with pretty bad seperation anxiety, and the other with what I would consider to be mild anxiety. This I know isn’t soo much the dogs themselves as the lifestyle we lead. We’re a military family that in the past couple years has been moving around a good bit and the dogs have moved around with us, sometimes having to stay with relatives for a while, sometimes making long car ride trips to make visits. My husband is sometimes home for a few months, and then has been absent completely for another month. I had been working long hours for a few months, now i’m home all the time. So I can guess how this has gotten worse. Having said that, I have done my reseach and put in my work. I’ve read many articles, trying different training techniques like trying to condition them to our leaving for short times, knowing we are coming back. We leave clothing behind with our scent, have tried kongs and their favorite toys, and even though i’m home all day, i try to give them alone time by closing myself in the room, and putting them outside and the list goes on and on. They have the most problems with being put outside. One sits and cries non stop, while the other is barking and clawing at the door. When we leave, it’s a toss up of whether or not something will have been destroyed. We leave treats and such, but they of course don’t touch them. The oldest dog has gone so far as to have what we think was a panic attack, when we were gone most the day, came home to let them out and he started throwing himself at the door. So now I am researching Calming formulas and was wondering if anyone has any experience using any particular brands with success or failure? Friends and vet have mentioned benedryl, but I would prefer something all natural because i’m not in it to drug up my dogs. Also something that I don’t have to purchase from the vet would hopefully save me a bundle. I know many out there will attack me for even considering using a pill whether natural or not, but these are our family pets that we absolutely love, that have had a rough time getting through recent events, that are not going to happen again in the future, so we would never give them up. I want something that i can give my dog occassionally, while combining it with training and conditioning, so that we won’t have to rely on a pill/remedy for too long. So please any good advice from those who have experience with this would be greatly appreciated.
You should Try "SleepyTime Tonic"!!
It is an all natural spray you put on a dog treat, directly into their mouth, or spray in their water 30 minutes prior to the anticipated event. Here is the link :
http://www.happytailsspa.com/Sleepytime-Tonic?sc=21&category=15
Also you can YouTube a video of this tonic. A lady explains how to use it. It is safe to use everyday. It won’t ‘drug’ your dogs it just helps them to relax under separation anxiety, thunderstorms, trips to the vet, groomings, etc. I use this on my maltipoo girl right before bedtime every night and it works WONDERFULLY. She isnt groggy or drugged because this product is all natural. It just calms her so she wont wimper or cry at night in her crate. She is still her normal playful, exited, happy self when she wakes up in the morning and throughout the day. It apparently tastes great to her b/c she gladly lets me spritz it in her mouth. This is a reputable line of spa dog products as well. I am VERY particular about what i feed my dog and i would never give out advice that wouldnt be benificial and safe to use. TRY IT! Its $12.00 a bottle and lasts 90 days for a small breed dog or 60 days for a medium breed and so on… HTH !
God Bless
