A Transdiagnostic Approach to Treating Sleep Disturbance in Psychiatric Disorders.

Posted by admin - Under: Cause of Panic Attacks

Authors: Harvey AG
Sleep disturbance commonly co-occurs with a range of psychiatric disorders. This is of concern given the accruing evidence that sleep is critically important for mood regulation, physical health, cognitive functioning, and quality of life. There is strong evidence that insomnia, even if it is comorbid with another psychiatric disorder, is treatable with cognitive behavioral therapy. There is a need to develop cognitive behavioral approaches to the other types of sleep disturbance often experienced by patients with psychiatric disorders, such as hypersomnia, reduced sleep need, delayed phase, nocturnal panic attacks, and nightmares. The possibility of developing a transdiagnostic treatment that comprehensively treats sleep disturbance for use across psychiatric disord…

Key Areas That Cause Anxiety Disorder

Posted by admin - Under: Panic Attack Therapy

Author : Beth Kaminski

According to researched in the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), three brain areas of a patient with panic disorder lack a key component which is a chemical messenger system that regulates emotion Following a series of brain scans done on panic disorder patients to find anxiety disorder treatments, it is revealed that a type of serotonin receptor is reduced by nearly a third in three structures straddling the center of the brain The finding published in January 2004 in the Journal of Neuroscience, is the first in living humans to show that the receptor, which is pivotal to the action of widely prescribed anti anxiety medications, may be abnormal in the disorder, and may help to explain how genes might influence vulnerability This research was conducted by Drs Alexander Neumeister and Wayne Drevets of the NIMH Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program

Statistics show that about 2 4 million Americans have panic attack strikes suddenly, and experience feelings of intense fear and physical symptoms sometimes confused with a heart attack If these symptoms go unchecked, the disorder often sets in motion an unbearable psychological syndrome of agoraphobia, which is avoiding public places Researches have long suspected that panic disorders are genetic components since it runs in families but the new finding suggests that genes might increase the risk of disorder by coding for decreased expression of the receptors These findings have evidence in recent animal testing In 2002, Dr Rene Hen and her colleagues from Columbia University reported that a strain of gene "knockout" mice, engineered to lack the receptor during a critical period in early development, exhibit anxiety traits in adulthood, such as a reluctance to begin eating in an unfamiliar environment

Various researches with successful results have enabled the scientists in overcoming panic disorder Most of the anxiety disorder treatments are concerned with controlling the symptoms panic attacks, reduce their number and severity, and reduce the anxiety and fear associated with having another attack The effect is doubled if the medication if it is combined with some natural methods of treatments; for example counseling and home treatment, therapy and relaxation courses Medication choices to treat panic disorder come in the form of SSRIs which are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil Benzodiapines such as Xanax, Valium,

Ativan and Klonopin are also prescribed besides SSRIs Along with the above mentioned, antidepressants with mixed neurotransmitter effects, such as venlafaxine but this type of medication is only given in later stages Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), such as Tofranil, Norpramin, or Anafranil and Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as Marplan, Nardil, or Parnate are also given at a certain level to treat panic attacks

Most of the medical professionals would prefer a combination of medicine and other approaches However the best medication for panic disorder is considered to be cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on the way a person thinks and altering certain behavior patterns It allows the person to build an optimistic approach and would tell the about some efficient ways to handle a panicky situation Combining these two therapies results in less frequent panic attacks A combination of anxiety attack medication would make the symptoms disappear in some time The dosage of medicine and the therapy sessions are generally increased if the patient does not see the results within 6 8 weeks

Overcoming panic disorder takes quite awhile as it depends on the severity of the case Normally, medication is continues for a year or longer and then decreased gradually over several weeks In some cases, panic attacks tend to occur after medication is stopped; hence doctors will continue the medication for a few more months for you just so that you can keep the symptoms under control Most medical practitioners would advice and recommend patients to seek for therapy and self relaxation techniques before administering medication to them This is because once medication is given; the patient might be depended on the drug Self relaxation methods come in the form of yoga and pilates A walk on the beach and even jogging can help cope with panic attack and stress Apart from that, patients are advised to join a group therapy in order to talk their feelings out and share with one another as well as help other people overcome their problems

As a leading expert in the field of treating anxiety disorder, Beth Kaminski is always on the lookout for ways to treat panic attacks.

Health advice needed: What natural remedies are there to reduce palpitations? Not medicines?

Posted by admin - Under: Home Remedies for Panic Attacks

I was just wondering what, if any, remedies there are for curing or calming down palpitations when they arise. I am a 24 year old male who has had anxiety and panic attacks since 2001. Even when at home relaxing my mind is working over time and my heart races and palpitates. I am naturally more aware of my own heartbeat and every beat it makes due to my anxiety and general pre occupation with the way i feel.

If anyone knows, what can be done to limit palpitations and help you relax and concentrate on other things so that you constantly worry and hear every single beat.

Most people don’t go through this and i would give anything not to also. It seriously affects my life this anxiety and i am trying to find ways to drastically decrease the impact the symptoms of it has on me.

Thanks for your help in advance guys !

What are good ways to help a panic attack the moment it’s happening without therapy or drugs?

Posted by admin - Under: Panic Attack Therapy

I’ve had them almost everyday for two and half months now, I know why they’re happening, I just would like to know some things that could calm me down. Possibly a list of sorts?

The obvious answer is to use a paper bag, but I don’t always find that that works. I get panic attacks a lot and I recite lists of things. I know that sounds weird, but I go through all the winners of the Royal Rumble (I am a wrestling fan) or do some complicated maths or something. It sounds like it won’t work, but trust me, it does because it distracts your mind. Pick something you like to concentrate on. Also, herbal remedies work, even though I really REALLY don’t believe in that kind of thing, they actually do.

Can kava cause panic attacks?

Posted by admin - Under: Cause of Panic Attacks

I recently started taking a drug called kava kava. I don’t know if you are familiar with it but after taking it I started having really bad panic attacks and I continue to have the. Does anyone know if this drug causes panic attacks, and if so how long does it take for this drug to leave the body?

yea the buzz you get from kava is similar to alcohol, its suppose to be relaxing though… if you are getting panic attacks you should probably cut back on your intake. try only having a glass a day

I need help writing a conclusion…this is all i got so far…PLEASE HELP MEE?

THIS IS ALL I GOT SO FAR

They have six legs, crunch when you squish them, and make most girls scream. If you guessed cockroaches then you were correct. They always make walking to the kitchen at night a hassle because you never know what you’re gonna step on.Most people have had experiences with cockaroaches.I’ve had to many to count!I guess they’re attracted to my perfume

I remember when my family and i went to key west for the weekend and on our way back home we stopped to get something to eat.We went to sonic and i ordered an oreo sonic blast. After we parked, and went through the long, excruciating task of giving everybody what they ordered,I got a straw, and stuck it inside the sonic blast.I took one fast sip! After that moment,i never looked at a straw in the same way ever again.

Surprisingly,a roach scampered menacingly up the straw with ill intentions right before i took the big sip!I could feel this squirmy little thing swimming aroung in my mouth and at first i thought it was just a piece of ice. After the first bite i heard this big crunch sound, and then i felt something squirt out of the misterious piece of ice.I immediatley spit it all out.Once i looked down and saw what had been swimming in my mouth for like three seconds,i started screaming.I was so discusted!I threw up about five times,it was like something out of a horror movie, chunks flying everywhere.

finnaly, after i was done with my little panic atack,I decided to go back to sonic and start pointing fingers.I told them what happend and some of the workers even started laughing.I was so mad and frustrated, nobody was taking me seriously. After they saw that i was litteraly about to blow, they said that they where extremly sorry and that they would give me a re-fill.Wow a refill!

I DONT KNOW WHAT I SHOULD WRITE FOR MY CONCLUSION…THE ESSAY IS DUE TOMMOROW AND IM OUT OF CREATIVITY JUICE…CAN SOMEONE PLEASSEEEE HELP ME

THIS IS THE TOPIC

most people have had experieces with cockroackes

think about your own experiences with cockroaches:seeing them, killing them, being scared of them, etc

now write to describe your experience with a cockroach.Be sure to include details you think will interest your readers

I guess cockroach’s have become so popular that even serving them threw a straw at a restaurant is normal…It is a known fact the FDA has a certain limit for how many bugs can be in your food, before it is not considered edible. Umm, they really do provide a certain amount of protein and are considered a delicacy in some cultures.

I really wish you good luck…good read though
