Home remedies to relieve panic attacks??

Posted by admin - Under: Home Remedies for Panic Attacks

Does anyone out there have anything that works for them? Aside from medication, I was searching for quick, sure-fire methods for relieving sudden panics. It sometimes interferes with my schooling and my job. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

I was having panic attacks and found out I was allergic to cow’s milk. It sounds weird, but the attacks went away once I was off milk. Good luck to you I know they can be crippling. You also might want to cut out caffine, reduce you sugar intake and try some calming chamomile tea.

What are some symptoms that OCD, PTSD and panic disorder have in common?

How "exposure" treatment might be helpful for treating each of these disorders. How does learning contribute to a person developing each disorder?
Of the three types of anxiety disorders which do you think would cause the most disruption in the way a person lived?

are you that lazy that you won’t take 10 minutes to look in a book and figure it out yourself?? you DO realize that 90% of people who answer on this site have no clue what they are talking about right?

do yourself and favor, do your own homework – if you are a psych major, this is stuff you are going to need to know to get into grad school – and trust me, grad school is a must unless you’d like to use your bachelors degree to wipe old peoples asses the rest of your life – because with today’s job market, that’s about all you can get without a master’s or higher.

Edit -

No-one – great cut and paste, how about citing the material instead of taking credit for someone elses work.

How do you get rid of everyday shortness of breath, dizzyness, headaches from a panic attack sufferer?

Posted by admin - Under: Panic Attack Therapy

I suffer from panic attacks and mild agoraphobia. Currently I am seeing a Psychologist who is working with me using Cognitive Behavior Therapy but I have seen him only one time. My last major panic attack which is my first was back in December of last year. Ever since then, most of everyday I have a problem with shortness of breath, a choking feeling in my throat, dizzyness, feelings of faint, having a tight band on my head, headaches and visions problems like squinting and burning of the eyes. This is beginning to be bothersome to me and it feels like it would trigger a panic attack and of course, I dont want this to happen. Does anyone have a cure to this? I’ve been perscribed Zanax for my immediate panic attacks and later perscribed Klonopin for everyday use. I have not used my Klonopin yet because of mixed feelings about it. Does this medication help with this? I heard that relaxation exercises work to cure this. If so, where can I find out how to do it? Any info is appreciated.

I Know exactly what you are talkig about. A panic attac can be a really scary thing to experience. I remember the firat one I ewver had. I was sitting in a board meating at work. The room was kind of small, and there were too many people cramed in. I was sitting there, the room was quiet because the meeting had yet to start. All of a sudden I started to notice I was begining to breath kind of heavy. Then I started to break out in a sweat. Then the room felt like it was closing in on me. I had to run out of the room and head towards the mens room. As I was walking I felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest, and my head was going to explode. I could actually hear the blood swishing through my veins in my forehead. I thought O was going to die right there at work. Then as sudden as it all started, it all just stopped. I was never so scared in my life.

I went the medication/therapist route, but the meds made me feel like a zombie. Klonopin was one of the meds I was taking. I would suggest you stay away from it. You should work with your Dr. to find something else. After sitting through way to many shrink sessions, I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for another round of sessions. That is where it hit me. I took a good look around the room at all of the other people sitting there. A vast majority of them appeared to have real mental problems. It is right then that I said to my self, What the heck am I doing here? There is nothing wrong with me. I am stronger than these panic attacks. I got up, told the lady at the front desk I could not stay for my appointment, and never had another panic attack.

Whenever I felt one coming on, I just mentally would not allow my self to have one. I learned to control the attacks instead of the attacks controling me.

You really do have the power in you to overcome panic attacks. You can be stronger the the urge to freak out. It takes a while, but it can be done. I am living proof.

I wish you the best of luck on overcoming this bump in your road of life. Stay strong, you can do it!

Can high doses of caffeine cause panic attacks?

caffeine can make you on edge and if your already nervous about something can make it worse but its not a true panic attack

if i had a heart atack,could i be sleeping well,doing push ups,walking everywhere,eating ,breathing normally?

I think it’s a panic atack

Oh man that sounds exactly like a panic attack, especially if it lasts for hours on end. I have them myself and the symptoms are EXACTLY that of a heart attack but after several embarrassing hospital emergency room visits you have to seek psychiatric help.
I have this drug called lorazepam, whenever I get a heavy panic attack I pop a pill and within half an hour (which seems to go by very, very slowly) I’m back to normal again, if not a bit better.
Hope everything goes good, make sure you get an appointment with a doctor to get an ECG for just in case and, if its simply just panic, to put your mind at ease.

What do you all think about a child taking prozac for panic disorder?

Posted by admin - Under: Panic Disorder Children

The child is 11 and has had panic attacks and is fearfull all the time.He has been on prozac for 2 months with much improvement…this is an inherited condition and he has a stable home with no tramitic experiences in his past.I am concerned of the long term with his condition.
Yes…he is under the care of a psycologist and peditrician
It is sometimes hard to know what the right thing to do is,especially when its your child and you are responsable for them.I have him on meds and I guess I just wanted reassureance that the choice I have made is the right one.For the long term…along with coping skills.I have the same dissorder but do not take meds. But I am 37 and he is only a child who is not able to talk himself out of a situation.Thank you for all the input.

There are a lot of different views on children taking meds for anxiety, depression, attention span disorders; some are negative and some are all FOR a child taking meds to control their disorders. I think it’s up to YOU the parent who has to deal with the child and the issues that accompany their disorder. If you are comfortable with your child taking meds and he/she is improving then I don’t see a problem with that so long as you are made well aware of the possible side effects of the meds on your child. And if the medication is improving their quality of life I don’t see why this would be a "bad" thing. It’s solely up to you. We as parents need to decide what is best for our kids. Don’t let people tell you that what you are doing is wrong or bad. It’s all about what will work for your child for them to have a normal life. That’s what’s important. Take care.

What is panic/stress related attack that would not require going to the hospital?

Posted by admin - Under: What Is A Panic Attack

What would be syptom of being in panic, being depressed, or stressing out, that would not require you to go to the hospital, but it serious enough for concern?

Should you go to the hospital in case of Panic attack?
This question is primarily about a teenagers, but answers about any age are helpful as well.

You could perhaps go to the hospital for a panic attack- they would probably send a therapist to talk to you which could mean she would prescribe you some medication which could be a good thing. If they feel you are a danger to yourself or to others they may admit you to the psych ward. If you think your going to kill yourself you need to call/go to the hospital or call 1-800-suicide, they can help talk you through it. And sometimes Depression can get to a point where you need to go to the hospital. Maybe you should opt for an "institution". One that is reputable though and one that isn’t going to imprison you. You have to be careful for that now-a-days. If you can wait call a mental health center and set up an appointment with a therapist so you can get better. No one should go through these things alone. You don’t have to feel like this either-been there, done that. I’m so much better now so don’t think you wont get better because you will.
